Did you know that most computer breaches involve password theft? And that many people’s passwords aren’t all that secure?
These facts are driving companies like Google to experiment with security measures that could make passwords become extinct.
Google is just one company developing new authentication systems that will work in tandem with traditional passwords. Google recently shared its advances in facial recognition technology based on artificial intelligence.
Other methods currently being explored include finger print scans, text messages and code-generating apps. And passwords themselves are getting revamped, with alternatives to traditional text passwords such as emoji passwords gaining traction.
At this stage, most new methods are dual authentication systems that still require a password. So while it’s possible that passwords become extinct, it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
