In the aftermath of his daughter’s fatal car accident, longtime Columbus newscaster Dom Tiberi found a way to transform his grief into a force of good. The 10TV newscaster did that by founding Maria’s Message, a campaign named for his late daughter that asks for a commitment to avoid distractions while driving. Maria Tiberi was only 21 when an unknown distraction led her to crash her car.
Since that time, Dom has helped educate thousands of high-school students about the dangers of distracted driving. He also helped Ohio state legislators declare September as Distracted Driving Month.
And his efforts are as strong as ever. On Monday, April 27, Dom, along with fellow 10TV newscasters Jerry Revish and Kristyn Hartman, officers from the Westerville Police Department and other special guests will give an interactive distracted driving presentation.
During this presentation, attendees will learn more about Maria’s Message and get tips to prevent distracted driving. They’ll also have a chance to take the Maria’s Message pledge and practice their driving skills on one of the driving simulators.
The April 27 event starts at 7 p.m. in the Fritsche Theatre at Otterbein University in Westerville. Tickets to the event are free, but there are a limited number of seats. Visit the event website to learn more and to register.
